Melissa Reaves is an American singer, guitarist, composer and improviser known to audiences throughout the US and Europe for her fire-driven’ avant-garde, deconstructionist approach to rock-n-roll.
Reaves has amassed a word-of-mouth following most notably for her experimental guitar work but also for her propensity towards spontaneity and seamless improvisation during live performance.
Reaves prominence on the independent scene has garnered attention of various media outlets including CMJ, The Oxygen Chanel, On-Line TV, the Discovery Channel and NYC’s Manhattan Mirror, which raved, “Melissa sings the blues all heart and soul…she delivered the goods and shook the place.”
In 2012 Melissa's, "New Rock Song" was placed on the 55th GRAMMY Awards nomination ballot for Best Rock Performance. In addition her latest collaborative project, The Meldavians, were placed on the official GRAMMY nomination ballot in 3 categories for their recent album, Farewell Arigemon… Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song and Best Americana Album.
Reaves performs both as a solo artist and as a band at venues as diverse as Lilith Fair, Midem International Music Conference, Austin City Limits Music Festival, Merce Cunningham Studio and The American Dance Festival.
Melissa’s discography includes Fall From Grace (1995), Lullaby for Belle (1998), Sentimental Anthem (1999), and inclusion on the Go On Girl 2 (2000) compilation. Rough Cuts (2004) and Holidaze (2008), are both a slight departure from her high-octane live material offering audiences a soulful example of Melissa’s expansive range as a musician.
