Biography

Medallist’s FREE live ep is available via their myspace.

Coming together in and around the Bristol area in late 2006, electro rock band Medallist exist as a glorious anomaly in a musical era dominated by run of the mill ‘indie bands’ and fly by night ‘next big things’. Haunting the Bristol scene for a couple of years now these five hipsters give artpop a positively Bristol flavour.

Driving beats and synth-laden dance rhythms are overlayed with snarling guitars and vocals, complete with sleazy sneer and sweet falsettos. Medallists sound is distinctive, but within this they encompass several styles, at times producing epic psychedelic/indie rock a la Kasabian, and at others sounding like the Klaxons’ cooler, dirtier big brothers. Mixing early 90s transformer sound-effects with dark and brooding moments, sometimes resembling a future Bond theme, always hard to pin down, Medallist enjoy defying what an indie rock band ‘Should’ sound like.

With an album in the bag and a tour looming on the horizon scheduled for October/November 2008, lock your horses up, put your space suit on and prepare to be blasted into euphoric orbit.
