Brighton, United Kingdom

Mechanical Bride is Lauren Doss, a Brighton, United Kingdom based singer-songwriter. Her label Transgressive Records had this to say of her in their ‘Tips For 2007’ list: “We’ve never heard distant and lonely folk music quite this forceful and bracing… ambient, hypnotic, and sumptuous singing to boot - downbeat, occasionally hopeful, always beautiful… and she’s only 20.” She has also been compared to Björk. As well as releasing the fantastic In the Throes (consisting of the songs Chapel, Poor Boy and Love Is Lost), she has also dueted with Larrikin Love on their forthcoming single Well, Love Does Furnish A Life (or A Day In the Life) and performs live with Jeremy Warmsley, who describes her as “a lovely, talented lady”, on a regular basis. Her latest ep is called Black Skeleton Sea, released in July of 2008.

Absolutely wonderful. Daring and unique. I just wish for more tracks that are ACTUALLY by Lauren Doss.

May i point out that 'More than a girl' is not by the Mechanical Bride fronted by Lauren Doss. 'Songbird' is not by her either, nor is'All figured out' or 'Easy for you'. Seems this is due to a same name error. If logomachon of below had listened properly he'd have realised its an entirelt different voice...

Has anyone noticed that on some songs she can't hit a note square on pitch except by chance, e.g., All Figured Out, Easy for You, Love is Lost? She's wanders sharp then flat, and even when she is on pitch she has off-key overtones. I think on Poor Boy (Chapel, Songbird) all that reverb is covering up digital pitch correction. Listen to All Figured Out, where there isn't any reverb and overdubbing--she's not only flat, she has the timbre of a twanged rubber band.

Saw her a year and 5 months ago, forgot all about her then finally returned to her to find 3 new shouts. :( Love the tracks I've got, is an album out?

Does Umbrella exist on a record anywhere? I heard it months ago and it's been a scribbled note to remind me to find it ever since!

Why is her shoutbox empty? Come on. She's the best female singer songwriter this country has had for years (possibly decades). Lauren Doss = perfection. n_n
