Biography

Singer Robin McAuley (previously with Grand Prix) joined MSG for the album ‘’Perfect timing’’ (1987) and stayed with them until the 1991 album ‘’MSG’‘. Surprisingly Schenker changed the band name from Michael Schenker Group to McAuley Schenker Group, proving that McAuley had a strong saying in the band. The sound of the band moved to more melodic hard rock from the edgier approach of the first MSG albums and actually this way they managed to deliver their finest works. ‘’Save yourself’’ (1989) and ‘’MSG’’ are regarded as Schenker’s highlights with MSG, especially among melodic hard rock fans. With ‘’MSG’’ they even managed to score their first hit single ‘’Nightmare’‘, a great accoustic ballad with the distinctive raw but sentimental vocals of McAuley and Schenker’s wonderful melodic phrasing on both accoustic and (a little) electric guitar.

@christuffer that's because he know Mcauley was his greatest asset, and he was letting Robin to shine -:)...three albums of McAuleySG>>>>>>>Kelly Keeling MSG>>>>>any other MSG albums....and Schenker is only good/very good guitar player, when he writes a song he is almost always awful (McAuley albums wrote Robin)

Was always disappointed that Schenker's guitar work took too much of a backseat when he paired up with McAuley. His best guitar work is not on these albums.

Yes, quite awful, for me anyway. Too much glam/commercial sounding stuff. First two had some great Hard Rock moments, eg: I Don't Wanna Lose, Love Is Not a Game, Rock 'til You're Crazy, Save Yourself and Nightmare... true gems, but again, that is my opinion. Still love the acoustic album though...

The talent of Schenker with the amazing voice of McAuley, mixed up togheter, can be but awesome, great music. I wish there could have been more from these guys, only three albums. That is, three fantastic ones!

A história do MSG se confunde com a própria história do Hard Rock e essa é, sem dúvida, uma das maiores e mais respeitadas bandas do estilo....

I find the third album quite awfull I must say, the first en 2nd with MaCaully has great moments; Follow The Night, Save yourself and for sure Nightmare. One of Schenkers best songs... and the solo shows why he has so many followers!!! And check out the acoustic cd, a beauty!
