I don't know if crying, laughing or screaming would be the appropriate reaction to this piece. A bit overwhelming in a really good way.

Amazing to find something this modern and dissonant in Ravel's ouvre...amazing, but, considering his genius, not surprising.

This is the song that brought me to Ravel. Everything else is a pleasant bonus.

It was used in the film The Hunger. When you know what the music is portraying (a corpse hanging from the gibbet) it feels even more gothic and sinister and it was a good choice for the much maligned (and under-rated) film about vampires who yearned for mortality.
