If Shania Twain, Sheryl Crow, and Norah Jones harmonized camp songs in the car on the way to the beach, after an intense spiritual discussion on a swingset, it might sound like Maura Jensen.
A graduate of the Berklee College of Music and The Sheffield Institute for the Recording Arts, Maura Jensen is well on her way to becoming the highly-skilled and inspirational singer-songwriter she was created to be.
An introvert by nature, she has spent the past 10 years honing her writing craft, and overcoming her stage fright by singing everywhere from living rooms to the Berklee Performance Center. For her, music has never been about fame. If there is any benefit to wide-spread exposure it is for the sake of the message in the songs, not for the sake of the artist. Slowly but most definitely, Maura has traded in her shyness for the confidence that she is making a difference.
While she enjoys writing and singing sweet songs with clever lyrics, Maura would not consider herself a true musician if she could not use her talent to change lives, one person at a time. "If I never have a hit song, but I can bring the hurting woman in the back of the room to tears–good tears of course!–I know I'm on the right track." And it would seem Maura is indeed on the right track, as she can regularly make listeners laugh and then cry with the switch of a song.
One audience member confessed during an after-show video interview, “I felt such a range of emotions during her concert! The first song almost brought me to tears. She talked about a lot of things that I could identify with, a lot of personal struggles that we all go through. She just speaks of the human condition so well.” Another exclaimed, “The songs unlock stuff on a heart-level that most music just doesn’t touch. They’re spiritual, and they’re deep. I mean, I feel like I just had a feast tonight!” Whether it's a cry for forgiveness sung for the recovering drug addict, or a plea never to forget sung for the Vet going back to Iraq, Maura Jensen has an ability to convey messages that are not only universal, but uniquely inspirational.
Maura is currently in the studio recording her long-anticipated debut release, planned to be available late 2010.
