Fri 5 Oct – Matt Pond PA

I've always wanted to go to a Matt Pond PA concert. They are one of my favorite bands - ranked #2 on my overall artists - and because of the sheer volume of material they have produced, they have many great songs. Because of their musical style, I imagined that they would be fantastic in concert - they bring a unique sort of energy to their music that avoids the garbled punk, but exceeds an acoustic guitarist such as my all-time favorite artist, Matthew Ryan. They do this using a combination of strings and unique instrumental rhythm.

The show was far from packed, and the 150 or so in attendance easily fit inside of the venue - the Magic Stick is a small, 2nd floor bar with a stage in the corner. The strings and guitars sounded fantastic live. Additionally, Matt Pond has the unique quality of a genuine singer in that he sounds nearly identical live as he does in studio.

If you're only familiar with a few of MPPA's albums, they might not seem like a very good live band. …
