matotumba or MTTMB is an electronic/experimental/spanish Rock band and art collective from Puerto Rico, formed by art and photography students in the year 2000. After exploring in painting, photography and video they start to experiment with abstract and tribal sounds based on improvisation, utilizing the existing mediums to create their unique sound. Their music oscillate in parallel with organic, electronic and even non-conventional instruments, exploring in composition, structure, rhythm, dissonance and unorthodox methods of performing and recording in digital and analog process.
All of the artwork, photography, design, music videos, including album covers, T-shirts and their websites are created by the members of mttmb themselves. They also organize Art exhibitions collectivelly and individually, which led them to create a digital art gallery on the internet: Exponline. In 2003 they launched their own independent music label: DDC (Dientes de canibal).
On September 9th 2006, Matotumba released its first official full-length album titled “imbuiah”. A double CD set containing organic, electronic tracks, and live performances. A third disc containing additional tracks is distributed exclusively online through matotumbas official site.
Currently they are simultaneously touring promoting their new album and working on a documentary narrating their trajectory since the beginning through the present.
