Very Nice...Brings me back at the show on Tangerine dream in 77 in Montreal...we were on Mescaline and it sounds a lot like that....But this is Fripp so i think he is more inspired than all the mandarines and the tangerines ...apples and oranges Mr. Wyatt-Barret...

I sort of agree with Simbren, Robert Fripp for me is the master of the mellotron, especially on the Lizard album and the track Starless, but this Matching Mole piece is wonderful in its own right. I don't think there's much comparison anyway, they are musically quite different. I love mellotrons anyway, even Stackridge used one to great effect occasionally

richardrw—just for the record, Wyatt did not leave. he was booted from the Softs. I think it was because his song structures weren't fitting with their improv aesthetic. Matching Mole was then formed as a pun on the French for Soft Machine ("machine mol"). I think the aims were similar to his former band.

Well. sounds like they're just trying to see how many different sounds they can get out of a mellotron, a little Crimsonesque but not as effective

Sounds just like Soft Machine; perhaps before Mr Wyatt found a style of his own. Also no lyrics to this - Wyatt left SM because the others couldn't get on with his singing across their avante garde music. This track is in my opinion undistinguished.
