There are multiple bands with the same name:

- (1) An American Death Metal band from Tampa, FL, initially formed in 1983.
- (2) Free Improvisation/Experimental band from New York formed in 1980 by Fred Frith Of Henry Cow.
- (3) Una banda Skate rock pionera en Argentina, fomada en 1985.
- (4) A Finnish punk band

(1) Although Massacre were hampered by unstable line-ups for much of their career, they, along with Morbid Angel and the late Chuck Schuldiner (RIP) , helped originate and shape the genre of Florida Death Metal and have influenced countless bands that came later- everyone from Napalm Death to Entombed cite them as a major influence. Pre-Massacre, both Kam Lee and Rick Rozz were original members of Death along with Chuck. Death was still unsigned at that time, making demos as a three piece (playing without bass), and Kam himself drew the famous Death logo. Kam is widely acknowledged as being the originator of the gutteral death-growl vocal style which has since become the de-facto standard in Death Metal.

Massacre played countless shows in mid 80’s Florida before the spotlight fell on the area, influencing the later wave of bands from Deicide to Obituary to follow their lead. The band were put on hold however, when Chuck Schuldiner relocated back from LA to his native Florida and promptly recruited Rick, Bill and Terry to record the second Death Album “Leprosy”, for Combat Records .

Back from Beyond is decent, some good songs, others..not so good. It sounds a lot like Grave's recent material. From Beyond will always be their best but it's good to see these guys active and back making music.

Gotta agree with Thorgrimm6... I'll get BFB only to complete my collection. For me there is no Massacre without Kam.

Also, it's good to finally have insight to that Massacre vs Kam Lee situation... Kam Lee still has the better vocals, but it's just too bad that his egotistical persona just doesn't allow for a future cooperation between him and the Massacre guys... I still hoped the interview would mention stuff about that issue between Chris Barnes and Terry Butler... Now we're still left in the dark about that...

"Ascension of the Deceased" is the best track, for sure. It's fast and it brings the "From Beyond" spirit back (at least for a while). No, I didn't want a "From Beyond" clone, but I wish the album were fast and raging, like every death metal album should be.

Thanks for that Johan....yeah the new album is a let down, seems like they just kinda phoned it in. And no way in hell is Webb a better vocalist than Kam, not for Massacre anyway.

I was hoping that the new album could be great, but, I'm dissapointed, it's kinda weak.

the new album is decent, but I'm not sure if the vocalist actually is that fitting for Massacre, vocals remind me a bit of the Jungle Rot frontman
