James George, guitar/vocals and Josh Lipscomb, bass (and whomever they could get on drums) formed Maryte in 1996, Originally a garage/shed band, Marytre played local parties and shows around Moncks Corner, SC. Marytre produced their first recording, ‘Infect My Ambition’ that same year. In 1997 James joined forces with his cousin, Aaron Pugh, bass, and moved Marytre to Seattle. In 2005 James’ priorities shifted, and he placed Marytre into a dormant state to devote his time to creating a better life for his family.
With a desire to create super-crunchy, piss-your-parents-off rock, James aroused Marytre from it’s slumber in 2011. In October of 2011, Marytre released their first album, Seed.
Marytre quickly becoming a fixture in the Charleston music scene, playing shows nearly every weekend, earning new fans with every performance. With a reputation for “bringing the heavy” and the ability to draw a crowd, Martre was invited to open for Jucifer, Elisium & Saint Diablo in 2012.
Marytre embarked on their first regional tour in June of 2013, playing a variety of new venues throughout the Carolina’s, earning new fans with each stop.
Marytre released their second album, “merry tree” on July 6th, 2013.
