• Love of the Week: Maroon 5

Let's talk for a minute about sex. Just for a minute! It'll be painless and I promise we'll do it again. (Wow, that sounds ridiculously (in?)appropriate in context.)

Some people just have that certain something that makes them ooze sex out of every pore. It's not premeditated, they're not trying; it just happens. Everything they do looks like it should be accompanied by a porn soundtrack (not the "Bow chicka bow wow!" kind, either), and they turn knees to water by just walking down the sidewalk. Adam Levine of Maroon 5 is one of these people.

It certainly helps that the pop-funk sound his band produces is irresistibly danceable. The lyrics of their songs are sometimes sensual, sometimes sorrowful and always awesome. The combination of the throbbing beat, the murmur of things like "All alone with the negligee that still hangs above my bed" in Back at Your Door

Uma boa pedida com músicas para relaxar é Maroon 5.

Acabei de adicionar algumas músicas, recomendáveis, de seu novo álbum, It Won't Be Soon Before Long.

Nesse álbum, duas músicas já ouvi e são recomendáveis: Makes Me Wonder; e Back at Your Door. Mas o meu compartilhador de arquivos, LimeWire, já sugere para esse novo álbum além dessas, Won't Go Home Without You; além de que há quem possa gostar da faixa Back at Your Door.

  • It Won't Be Soon Before Long

When a band is about to put out there much anticipated sophomore album, I always get worried. That sophomore slump is the cause for many potential stars. Thank goodness Maroon 5 has no idea what a sophomore slump is. At first listen to It Won't Be Soon Before Long, one is quick to notice influences by The Police, Michael Jackson and other late 70's - 80's pop. Unfortunately, these influences are sometimes a little too obvious. Let's take the guitar/bass riff from Not Falling Apart. It's extremely reminiscent of Every Breath You Take. That's my largest criticism of this record. I also find myself wishing that the subject matter were a little more diverse. Songs About Jane found a nice place for a couple of love songs while It Won't Be Soon Before Long lends itself to darker lyrical content almost entirely focused on failed love and longing. Their music is still extremely sexy. The melodies and lyrics are terribly catchy and highly dance-able. …
