going by the comments I didn't think Along the Way would be as awesome as it clearly is. don't listen to the naysayers!

i think he is a very talented guitarist. i've listened to almost all of his albums, and i do like his meditative, contemplative albums, however i really like the spots when he just shreds the shit out of his guitar more. he can get really epic with his sounds.

Along the Way is like Mark's version of "new age" music or something. It's not bad I suppose but it's not what my ears are wanting to hear at the moment.

I'm starting to enjoy the solo records more than anything Emeralds ever put out as a group. So many of the band's material seems unfocused, while stuff put out by Mark and Steve comes off as more coherent and ultimately more immediately enjoyable. I can see why some people would dig the abstraction of Emeralds, especially their earlier material (pre-2009), but albums like Tragedy & Geometry and A Young Person's Guide just hit that spot where most of the band's output failed to. /twocents
