Marissa Nadler is an American musician and . She plays six string guitar, 12 string guitar, piano, ukelele, banjo, and voice.
Nadler studied painting at the Rhode Island School of Design, where she began her performing career after writing songs for many years. Her latest record, July, is out now on Sacred Bones Records at and Bella Union in the EU. July is also available on Amazon at the following location and on iTunes at Her previous record was self-released on June 14th, 2011 and it’s companion record, The Sister, was released in April of 2012.

Nadler writes strange, yet , songs. Her voice is often bathed in a wash of reverb and space echo and creates a ghostly, atmospheric feeling to the music.

She has leanings; her songs often take place in an imagined, idealistic time with a cast of characters of her own creation. Her links to American Gothic are reinforced by Annabelle Lee, the last song on her debut album, Ballads of Living and Dying, which puts the poem of the same title by Edgar Allan Poe to a musical backing. Singing in a haunting mezzo-soprano, the foundation of her songs are her delicate 6-string acoustic guitar, often accompanied by variety of instruments, including electric guitar, theremin, and piano.

Been growing an obsession over her songs lately. There is definitely something haunting about them. Also she collaborated with Xasthur on a black metal record... can you believe that?

I can feel how beautiful and gorgeous her heart is by listening to her songs, because, writing songs like that is not an easy thing. Especially, "Was It A Dream" and "Under An Old Umbrella" are my fav. Want to hear more heartache, girl.

@Alec_Arellano I don't think she's still selling them on Etsy... which is regretful. These self-made records were awesome, including the lo-fi demos. Hoping she'll release more of them in the future!

@Haddonfield69, you got the positions mixed up and accidentally put July at #50 instead of #1. Please correct before anyone notices. You're welcome.

Unless a masterpiece comes out of nowhere during November it's fairly certain that "July" is my album of the year. Fantastic.
