Mari Tsuda (津田 真理) was born in Tokyo, she was graduated from Toho-Gakuen School of Music. During the freshman year at the college, she went abroad to attend the Mozarteum Academy in Salzburg, Austria and studied under Prof. Hans Leygraf. Studying at Academy in 1982, she was awarded the scholarship by the Austrian Government. In 1983, she won the First Prize and Special Prize at the 34th International Viotti Concours in Vercelli, Italy. Thereafter, she performed in various Italian cities and won high appraisal. In 1986, she was awarded the Gold Medal at Bordeaux Music Festival, and graduated from the Mozarteum with the highest honors. She then attended the Ecole Normal Sperior de Music in Paris, France where she studied under Prof. Germaine Mounier. After returning to Japan in 1989, she began to perform musical activities with major Japanese and foreign orchestras, including the Vienna Ksmmerorchester and the Polish Philharmonic. In addition to routinely performing at solo recitals, she has also appeared with the Berliner String Quartet and leading chamber orchestras. Her performance with the renowned cellist Jian Wang was aired by NHK on radio and television to high acclaim. In 2002 and 2003, she jointly recorded two CDs with world’s famous erhu soloist Xiao-Hui Ma, also performed with her. CDs “Mozart Recital”, “Chopin Scherzos”, “Plays Debussy & Ravel”, “Satie in the Twilight”, “Chopin 24 Preludes” and recently “Plays Russian Pieces” have been released.
