Marc David, born December 1, 1967 in Western Samoa. He developed an early interest in playing piano, and teaching himself songs by ear from movies, TV and off the radio. By age 13, he had developed a large enough repertoire to form a band with local musicians whom he met through an ad he’d placed in his Mother’s newspaper, The Burnsville Current.

In High School, he won a Louis Armstrong Award for his achievement in Jazz Ensemble, and in 1986 joined a traveling “Bar Band”, playing Classic Rock and the Top 40 music of the day. Having taken an interest in more intricate music than he was able to interpret on his own, and wanting to be able to write music on paper without an instrument handy, he modeled himself after rock guitarist Steve Vai by enrolling in The Berklee College of Music in Boston, in 1987. There, he taught himself how to transcribe the music of Frank Zappa, and would lead several large ensembles in performances of FZ’s and others’ music.

In 1991, Marc was invited to participate in and transcribe music for “Zappa’s Universe,” a 4-night “celebration” at The Ritz in NYC involving a 30-piece orchestra and rock band made up of notable Zappa Alumni. The PolyGram CD release of this performance won a Grammy in 1992 for “Best Rock Instrumental”.
