The nucleus of the band had already backed Stills on his July 1971 album Stephen Stills 2, and in May 1972, the double-LP Manassas was released. Down the Road was released in 1973 and in September of that year the band split. Passarelli and Lala went to Stills’ backing band. Harris, Perkins and Hillman joined The Souther-Hillman-Furay Band.

2) Manassas was a musical project by English musician Shaun Blezard that ran from 2001 to 2005. Two albums were: vague recollections on lost highway and live at the cavendish, both on Hypermnesis records. The albums have since been re-mastered and re-released on Earth Monkey Productions under the new name of Clutter. Manassas .

(The Stills outfit, I mean.) Down the Road is really solid, too, contrary to popular opinion...

What a magnificent band! And what a bloody shame that they couldn't stay together longer.

At the time of its release, a "Rolling Stone" review proclaimed Stephen Stills & Manassas resurrected Stills' flagging fortune as a player and recording artist. At the moment prior to this release, it seemed that Neil Young had eclipsed Stills, or ran past him so fast that Stills couldn't see his taillights. For one shining moment, this record changed that. While the band was filled with superstars, it didn't have the egos of CSN, CSN&Y, or Buffalo Springfield. Stills was in control. And, whether you like gritty rock, country, blues, or country rock, this album had it all in torrents. You could start with the sadness of "So Begins The Task" then light it up with "Treasure - Take One" and land on Stills' Moog experiment "Move Around" and you'll be at home in any room you visit.

This band is so underrated and unknown... they deserve far more attention.

The new Manassas album, Pieces, is superb, I can't stop listening to it. Stills was on a creative high during those years.

while i respect the more recent use of the name Manassas, Stephen Stills is a living legend, and his band deserves more credit here
