Described as the ‘Lou Reed of the grasslands’, Mamer’s music combines traditional Kazakh folk melodies and instruments with Western and traditional Chinese instruments.
Mamer’s band ‘IZ’ is credited with single-handedly kickstarting China’s alt-country scene and has influenced a huge range of acts including Mongol-crossover pioneers, Hanggai.
‘Eagle’ is Mamer’s first solo album.
Recorded in Beijing and Urumqi (Western China), ‘Eagle’ is aimed at a broad international audience and features collaborations with UK-based producers Robin Haller and Matteo Scumaci, a duet with admirer and banjo legend Bela Fleck (track 4), and a remix by the late, great French musician Hector Zazou.
Mamer will be touring the US and Europe in 2009.
‘Eagle’ is scheduled for release in Spring ‘09.
