Gogo, Yensin and Shorty had the vision of the band in 1994 in Weed, Ca. while on a tour of the US. After returning home to Berlin, they formed their first band “Mr. Willey’s Angel”. They met their drummer Kayki two weeks before a tour of Hungary in 1996. In the first days of the tour it became clear, that he matched the band perfectly. In 2000, together with the piano player Oli B. Joseph they founded Mamasweed. They began recording the songs for their debut album “American Space Cake”, on an eight track recorder in their rehearsal studio. The band released the album on their own label, and “Mamasweed Music” was born. In 2002 they built “Mamasweed Studio” in Berlin-Kreuzberg and began recording their own songs as well as other bands. Over the years in their studio have recorded many well known bands, mainly from Berlin. In June 2005, they dominated and won the Rockliga tournament representing Berlin. Rockliga is a Jaegermeister band competition in Germany, where bands play together and the winner is chosen by the fans applause. Their second and latest album “Electric Zeppelin”, mixed and enhanced by Gordon Raphael, was released in 2006. “Electric Zeppelin” features many special musical guests from several influencial German bands. The music is very energetic and melodic with a polished but down to earth party groove. The bands musical influences come from many different worlds of music, classical to rock to afro-beat to reggae, but their main inspiration comes from 60’s rock and roll.
