One of the most influential albums from this period-- and IMO one the best! Devoto's lyrics are witty but sharp as a knife. It was Devoto who rejected British "punk" as too rigid "a confining aesthetic." In forming this band, he recruited really good musicians as well as bringing in all kinds of elements from artists like Can and Eno, while keeping things raw and edgy. As he sings, "my irritability keeps me alive and kicking." What a guy!
