“What It Feels Like for a Girl” is the third and final single by American singer-songwriter Madonna from her 8th studio album Music and was released on April 17, 2001 by Maverick Records. The track contains an excerpt from the movie “The Cement Garden”, told by the french actress Charlotte Gainsbourg.

The song was written by Madonna and Guy Sigsworth and produced by Madonna, Sigsworth, and Mark “Spike” Stent. An additional composer credit is included in the I’m Going To Tell You A Secret CD inner notes, with David Torn being the third composer.

The single was also released on DVD and VHS containing the controversial music video, directed by Guy Ritchie. Its depiction of violence and abuse caused MTV to ban it before 9pm. It became the biggest selling DVD single of all time in 2001.

Never been a huge fan of post-ROL Madonna, and probably never will be, but this song (album version) continues to be a stand-out in her entire discography.

but for a boy to look like a girl is degrading, because you think being a girl is degrading [2] this is so true and many times we don't even notice... but almost every degrating name you can call a man is feminine

One of her finest and, as has been said already, most forgotten moments. The song is sublime, isn't it? It just creeps under your skin so you can literally feel it... what it feels like.[3]
