Sweetness and Light (5:16)

Cover of Gala

From Gala and 18 other releases

“Of course, all my memories of Lush are shot through with some sadness as they remind me that Chris is no longer here. We had a weird bar count in a couple of songs—the break in “Sweetness and Light” and the one in “Superblast!”—and it was my job to give Chris the nod when the drums had to kick in again. I’d turn away from the mic, look round at him, and he’d always pull some silly face or be laughing hysterically at something. It makes me feel bereft to think that those days—and that person—are gone.” - Miki Berenyi

I too went to Lollapalooza in 1992 in Miami, and Lush were one of the reasons why I went. Seeing them perform this song, my favorite of theirs, was a gigantic thrill. It was the first song of theirs that I ever heard, on an episode of "120 Minutes" at the end of 1990.

This song takes me back to simpler times, every time. Saw them live at a Lollapalooza (2, I think) in Miami. Fan-lovely-tastic.

4th greatest song of alltime behind Ride's Leave them All Behind, MBV's Only Shallow and their own De-Luxe....Shoegaze forever....

this song changed my life, alongside Ride's "Vapour Trail". one of the many songs i learned to play on guitar. in fact i can play most of the "Gala" lp.
