Biography

Trondheim, Norway (2002 – present)

Lumsk is a band from Trondheim, Norway which was formed in 2002. It combines traditional or traditionally inspired elements from Norwegian folklore and poetry with progressive rock (latest works) and metal (earlier releases). The music has both male and female vocals with violin, guitars and drums. Their debut album “Åsmund Frægdegjevar” was released in 2003. They released their second album “Troll” in 2005. The lyrics were written in cooperation with Birger Sivertsen and Kristin Sivertsen who are experts on norwegian folk history. After their final tour following their third release “Det Vilde Kor”, Ketil and Siv Lena left the band due to family priorities, and has since then been replaced by Swedish musicians Håkan Lundkvist and Jenny Gustafsson, respectively. Shortly after this, it was decided that the main vocalist Stine Mari also parted with the band, in order to pursue a solo career. A new vocalist Annelise Ofstad Aar joined the band not long after. As of 2013 according to their facebook profile they are currently writing and recording new material, and a new album will hopefully be released either in 2013 or 2014.

Hate to disappoint, but the band's web pages haven't been updated in years. Band seems to be defunct, sadly.

I must also say that I am going to miss Stine Mari's pristine voice, but I still have full confidence in the talent and quality of anyone who is or becomes a member of this group. So it is with great excitement that I wait to hear how Annelise Ofstad Aar's (the new female vocalist) voice sounds.

According to the Facebook page of Lumsk the band as well as their website (or what little I understand of it, heh), a new album is indeed on the way, with a new female vocalist on board! I am truly anticipating to hear any new material from this group - the three existing albums are full of quality and have truly conquered my heart.

It is a bit rude to demand a new album from a band... isn't it? But it's hard to resist. You don't want to do it too soon. At least a year, right? Or a few? But if it's been, say, five years (as in this case) it might be warranted (or at least expected). I certainly don't NEED it, but I sure do want it. A formal update would be nice, but my hope does slightly dwindle with each month their official website remains inaccessible. Is all lost though? I cannot say. But I cling to hope... However, in a different light... I do only have a mere 800 plays for this particular group... and they are a relatively unpopular band (by last.fm standards), so it begs to question the overall demand for new material, but... nevertheless! I trudge onward.

Thanks for repeating my words folks. Now that I think of it.. the 5 words I know from the Lumsk top-15... are : Det=This, var=was, om=if , meg=me. Aar=year?. That's all I know, which means I should study more.
