What do you get when you combine youth, sass and fun to R&B music, the pop teen group Love Jones Girlz. The term “Love Jones” is from the 1970‟s slang term that means a deep love for something. These girls have a Love Jones for performing and now want to share their Love Jones with you. The power trio of Claire Jones (17), Noni Storm Chinn (16), Taylor Nirvana Jones (16) has endured a tough rock n‟ roll story over the past four years. A process that started off as six members, then five, then four, now finally the trinity, these young ladies have persevered the school of hard knocks. Now with laser like focus have an image, sound and direction they can call their own. The group has just released two new singles, the up-tempo power anthem “Cover Girl” for urban leaning pop stations and the high energy EDM single “Higher” for the pop leaning dance stations. Both singles are beginning to bubble at radio.
Recently the trio has been compared to a teen version of TLC and Destiny’s Child rolled into one. Yet Love Jones Girlz is determined to carve out their own music niche and direction. In 2010 Love Jones Girlz won the Faces in the Crowd Showcase in New York, a showcase that has become a springboard for artists on the rise including rappers Maino and Wiz Khalifa and Grammy winner Chrisette Michelle. On June 10th Love Jones Girlz is releasing their debut Album “Addicted to Lipgloss”. The eleven song set plays like a coming of age soundtrack for life of the modern teenager. The record also showcases the growth of the group not only as artists but songwriters. For Taylor, Claire and Noni the process has been therapy. The material comes from their real experiences of living in today’s peer pressure social media driven world. From defining for yourself what a “Cover Girl” is, to wanting a guy to realize you’re the one “ I’m Right in Front of You”, to girls that hate on you “Girl Hater”, the group relates in a real way across multiple platforms and demographics. “Rumors” the debut single addresses the timely topic of cyber bullying. Rock Davis & Jay Rodriguez of Itchy House Films (Rick Ross, DJ Khaled, John Legend) directed the "Rumors" music video shot in Harlem.
Taylor, Claire and Noni pride themselves on being multi-dimensional triple treats with the ability to sing, dance and act. Claire also brings the added dimension of rapping to her arsenal and aspires to be as good as Lauryn Hill some day with the ability to sing and rap. The group sites as their main influences other girls groups such as Destiny’s Child and TLC but also The Emotions, The Supremes and EnVogue.
Some of their vocal influences include Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Adele, Jazmine Sullivan and of course Beyoncé.
