Ball of Confusion (6:17)
From Seventh Dream of Teenage Heaven and 25 other releases
Cover of the Temptations classic from 1970. Astoundingly, for a white-bread ’80s minimalist operation, the band matches the power of the original. Seemingly like every other cover, the Rockets feel the need to change the line “the Beatles’ new record’s a gas,” in this case to say that the “Rockets’” new record is — dumb when so many other lines in the song are period specific (“cities aflame in the summer time,” among a dozen others). Still, recommended.

People moving out, people moving in
Why? Because of the color of their skin
Run, run, run but you just can't hide
