French composer Louis de Caix d'Hervelois (1680-1760) was a virtuoso who also composed many chamber pieces for Bass Viol. His work is typical of the French baroque school, with graceful small pieces in forms of dance, like musettes and menuets. Although not much is known of his life, he is believed to have studied with Marin Marais and Sainte-Colombe.
