Louis Armstrong (August 4, 1901 – July 6, 1971) was an American jazz trumpeter and singer.

Coming to prominence in the 20s as an innovative cornet and trumpet virtuoso, Armstrong was a foundational influence on jazz, shifting the music’s focus from collective improvisation to solo performers. With his distinctive gravelly voice, Armstrong was an influential singer, demonstrating great dexterity as an improviser, bending the lyrics and melody of a song for expressive purposes. He was also greatly skilled at scat singing, or wordless vocalizing.

Renowned for his charismatic stage presence, Armstrong’s influence extended well beyond jazz, and by the end of his career in the ’60s, he was widely regarded as a profound influence on popular music in general: critic Steve Leggett describes Armstrong as “perhaps the most important American musician of the 20th century.

OMG!! This is horrible. I have just lost the rest of the little respect I once had for that mediocre Kenny G. He is not even a fuckin musician. He can't improvise for shit. He is always HORRIBLY sharp while playing, and he cant even compare to the music and talents of Louis Armstrong. It is a disgrace to even hear them playing in the same song. Louis Armstrong is probably the most famous Jazz recording artist and history, the grandfather of "scat" and a great trumpet player. Kenny G is mediocre and in NO way compares. Maybe he has sold just as many records as many of the greats, but people are fooled into thinking that what he is playing is jazz. It is more "pop" if anything. Instead of being rated on his own little scale of greatness, his playing should be compared to that of John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, LOUIS ARMSTRONG!!! HE WOULD NEVER COMPARE!!! GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEADS!!! THIS IS A DISGRACE!!!!!
