One of Lou's best albums. The give and take between his and Quine's guitars is terrific and as tehcaldwell said, the bass is terrific. After a few albums of kind of going through the motions, the newly sober Lou hits a home run here. The title song and "Waves of Fear" rock mercilessly, but it's "Heavenly Arms" that really gets me -- such a beautiful, moving song; I consider it one of the best love songs of the past 50 years or so.

One of the finest albums of the decade. Fernando Saunders' bass playing is exemplary.

This album is the sound of Lou's revitalization. He picked up his guitar again, formed an ace band, wrote a bunch of magnificent songs and recorded The Blue Mask. This is the starting point of the mature and drug-free Lou Reed. He released several great Rock albums from this point on. Lou Reed's the greatest.

i wonder why Sylvia Reed decided to repurpose Lou's "Transformer" album cover when she designed THIS album's own cover. The very first time I listened to it, I was expecting to hear "Transformer II", just because of that.
