According to the The Highwayman Songfacts, this was written by Alfred Noyes (1880-1958). Although it was published early on in his career - in a 1907 anthology - it is probably the best known of his works.

I think _Mask and Mirror_ and _Book of Secrets_ are my two favorite Loreena albums...I love every track on _Mask and Mirror_ while I love some tracks on _Book of Secrets_ and really really like the others...BUT... the songs that MOVE me on _Book of Secrets_ (this one, "Skellig", and of course "Mummer's Dance") move me HELLA deeper than anything on _Mask and Mirror_ except "The Two Trees"
