Over the past few months I've had an increasing disenchantment with certain aspects of the local music scene, including but not limited to setting up evening lineups with mismatched bands, bands that are incompatible from the standpoint of style, or seeing a lineup where one good band is matched up with two or three bands that are either mediochre or outright bombs. I’ve complained about venues still listing bands who had long since advised the venue they wouldn’t be playing,, bands who continue to play the same thing over and over without ever writing anything new, and bands who have spats with each other about who goes on first or second without any regard to the paying customers who have come to see them play at a specific time in a specific order.....
All those concerns were blasted away in an exciting evening at Khyber June 27 when two exceptional Philly bands, Long Walk Home and Codename…
10 Jul 2008, 21:29 by shamelessaudJune is one of my favourite month’s of the year, not just because it’s my birthday so I’ve had lots of cakes and presents, but also because of H3 Music Festival in Milton Keynes :) I’ve attended H3 the past few years (2006, 2007) and what sets it apart from other festivals is it’s friendly nature, good humour and of course great music! I’m happy to report that 2008 was another great year!
As usual the music was split over two venues, a intimate marquee (which this year had much better stage and lighting) and a larger courtyard stage with the now legendary H3 logo at the center! There was also numerous other small venues for seminars, a quiet zone, the barn (avec licensed bar) and a late night cafe open till 3am in the morning for the campers!
This year for the first time I took some of my youth along to the weekend, and having traveled down from Yorkshire avoiding pretty much every accident on the M1, we set up camp and got to the Marquee stage just to see Faceless Joker a local rock/screemo…

2 Dec 2007, 23:23 by TraderBobA very unique week! Liked two bands that I heard live for the first time who wound up doing second shows on the same night in the same week!
My Saturday night started off at The Fire where I heard The Astral Lounge for the second time this week. I heard them first at The Khyber on Tuesday. … Then after a ride on the 15 :) :) … I went to North Star to hear Long Walk Home for the second time in a week, the first having been at Tritone last Friday.
Both bands were in top form. As I'm starting to get to know The Astral Lounge, I'm pulled in by the unique melodic lines and vocal stylings. Music of Long Walk Home had a slightly different persona the second time as compared to the first (more intense, maybe a little tighter). Overall LWH's instrumentals are at the juncture of rock, jazz, and some shoegaze.
So I'm just becoming familiar with each of these bands, and I know I'm going back to hear them live again. If they each wind up playing every 3 or 4 nights, I'm going to be pretty busy!

They are an awesome alternative/gothish band. Only limited time to catch them in Oz as they move to Berlin soon.Long Walk Home
