San Francisco, United States (2005 – present)

Loma Prieta is a screamo band, featuring members of Archeopteryx, Punch, Sailboats, Beau Navire and us, haunted bodies, that formed in San Francisco in 2005. Since formation, they have released four 12 inch records, and two 7 inch records (mostly on their own label), however their newest LP, “I.V.” was released on Deathwish Records, home of bands such as Converge, and Trap Them

From their Facebook page,

“While Loma Prieta’s sound is difficult to describe, it is clear that they come from the rich tradition of creative Bay Area hardcore bands such as Mohinder, Funeral Diner, Bread and Circuits, Yaphet Kotto, and Indian Summer. Eschewing sub-genres in favor of organically writing songs that are personally fulfilling, each Loma Prieta record is substantially different from the last. Nonetheless, Loma Prieta have managed to forge a distinctive form of expression that is entirely their own.”

I.V. stands to be one of the most intense things i've ever heard.

You really, really have to differ the live personalities and the off-stage personalities of hardcore bands, bands that make emotional music in general. I've met many bands that were really into themselves when they were playing but totally great people off-stage. Apart from that, they really should change that picture. The downvotes are ridiculous.

I still like I.V. the best. Last City and others are cool, but the intensity on I.V. is pretty much unmatched by any "screamo" band.

@davygrohl yeah I think you're right. when I saw them, it was the same way but I talked to them afterwards and they were all extremely nice people. can't stress that enough. definitely think it was them just getting into their performance. val was just puking in a trash can afterwards cuz he put on such a crazy and physically demanding performance.

@cheezeybaines I think I know where he's coming from. When I saw them the whole band didn't talk or acknowledge the audience during the performance. After they got done, the singer just threw his shit down and stormed out. I could see how he thinks they're assholes, though I thought they were just really into the performance. If memory serves me right at least one of the band members was outside chatting with people afterwards though. I think that's just how they are, I personally wouldn't chalk it up to being rude or anything.

listened to last city after some time...this album really is something. yes, they have grown but somehow, for some reason, these newer records just don´t have "it" compared to last city. on their own, all of their albums have been great but....

I think IV shows the most musical maturity, but I really do miss their old style. I can only hope they'll find a good middle ground with the next LP, or perfect the sound they were leaning towards with IV.

I personally think Last City is their most diverse and mature album. The others are all different and wonderful in their own ways, but Last City just encompasses all their music before they even made anything after it.
