About this album

Lohio 5 tracks (19:21)
Pittsburgh’s own Lohio has been awash in activity since their 2006 formation, releasing their full-length debut “History, the Destroyer” last year, opening local shows for Ra Ra Riot and Nicole Atkins, and shedding and adding new members. Their new EP shows a bit of a musical shift toward pop, though their folksy roots do show.
Led steadily by frontman Greg Dutton, whose friendly, smart voice invites you right into these five tracks, the band still has a knack for Midwestern thunder, as you’ll witness on the buzzing guitar soloing on opener “Grandfather’s Chaise ,” and folk-ish melodies can be found on “We’ll Hide Ourselves Underneath,” where Liz Adams’ lovely backing melodies shine through. But “Waiting for the End of the Summertime” bows more toward the Kinks and is tried-and-true Pittsburgh-brand indie pop, and “Old Orchard Beach” has a fine guy/girl dynamic, with Dutton noting your “Anxious feelings knocking knees.” -In Tune Music Review
