Hold Me Up (3:06)

Cover of Throwing Copper (Demo Tape)

From Throwing Copper (Demo Tape)

This song is a demo from the throwing copper era. It was originally used in the Kevin Smith movie Mallrats, the band refused to release it at that time. It was recently used in another Kevin Smith movie “Zach & Miri Make A Porno” and it appears in an “emotional scene” with Zack and Miri. Smith made a statement about featuring the song in the film:

“It’s an old song that I first heard in ‘95, when we were putting together the Mallrats soundtrack. It was actually in the film for the first test screening, but Live decided they wanted to hold onto it as a potential single off their next album (which would follow Throwing Copper). When I was editing Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, the song had still never surfaced or been released, so I put in a request for it again. Again, I was denied. Third time, apparently, was the charm. Needed a song for that sequence in Zack and Miri and remembered the Live track. This time, the band signed off on us using the track. Took 13 years, but was worth the wait.”

What a fantastic song!!!!!!!!!! Even the 128mp3 file I have taken from the movie is of low quality and it fades in and out from dialog removal (somebody did a great job, considering, though!), yet I can easily listen to this shitty audio quality all day long! Such a crying shame it was not released on the 2007 band-released Radiant Sea: A Collection of Bootleg Rarities and Two New Songs I join everybody else in praying that we'll some day get the version of this song that Kevin Smith obtained access to... so crazy that it's never surfaced!!!!

I honestly think this is the best song I've ever heard in my entire life. If I had an album with the soundtrack of my life, this would definitely be in it.

I love this so much. I never understood why people slagged on Live for being 'too earnest'...as if sincerity is a bad thing...

After that scene (in Zack and Miri), I couldn't pay attention for the rest of the movie, because I couldn't get over the fact that there was an awesome Live song I hadn't heard!

Fantastic song! I wonder why Live never officially released it. It would have easily fit in on Throwing Copper.
