Biography

Gothenburg, Sweden (2006 – present)

Little Dragon is an music group formed in 2006 and based in Göteborg, Sweden. The band is made up of Yukimi Nagano (vocals), Fredrick Källgren (bass), Håkan Wirenstrand (keyboards) and Erik Bodin (drums). Their new album ‘Nabuma Rubberband’ was released on May 13, 2014 on Loma Vista. Prior to this, they released three studio albums: Little Dragon (2007), Machine Dreams (2009) and Ritual Union (2011).

Their first release was a double-A-side 7” single on Off The Wall (later signed to Peacefrog) that had two tracks: “Twice” and “Test”.

Nagano was born and raised in Göteborg to a Japanese father and American mother. She grew up listening to American folk, but always had an affinity for R&B. Keyboardist Wirenstrand spent his childhood in Småland before moving to Göteborg where listened to a lot of Swedish folk music before getting into electronic music. Bodin grew up listening to early hip-hop and jazz. Fredrik was influenced by experimental, noise and electro house.

Nagano and Bodin play live with José González. Bodin also drums with Peps Perrson, a Swedish blues/reggae artist. Swedish electronic jazz duo Koop’s albums Waltz for Koop and Koop Islands feature Yukimi Nagano’s vocals on several tracks.

The band collaborated with Gorillaz on two tracks (“Empire Ants” and “To Binge”) from their 2010 released album, Plastic Beach. Little Dragon also collaborated with Maximum Balloon (the solo project of David Andrew Sitek, producer and member of TV on the Radio), for one track entitled “If You Return”.

Sir_LePaul is right every song flows into the next. It's a constant groove all the way through. I'm digging it. Surprised it's only gotten 33k plays so far.

Nabuma Rubberband is my fave album this year thus far. The atmospheric sound is just beautiful. Every song flows very well into the next. I feel they stepped up their production and songwriting, and paired with Nagano's always perfect vocals equals a stellar project.

I don't think 'Best Of' was a decision by them. Looks like their old label trying to make more money after they left.

I am surprised that the Best Of is an official release, thought it was fanmade. Is it really necessary to throw a compilation out there already?

Yep yep, Nabuma Rubberband is beautiful from beginning to end, by far their best album, even though I really enjoyed Ritual Union. Looking forward to seeing them at the Øya festival later this summer!

Spinned NR a few more times, I've decided it's their best effort as in album format. The tracks are quite cohesive after all, the 3 previous albums always had a few bulging tracks. All the tracks on NR are worth attention.

Never was really in to their other work, mainly because of the production - but this album fixes that. Easily their best, catchiest release yet.

I believe that I love Nabuma Rubberband much earlier than I did when I listened to Ritual Reunion. I think Ritual Reunion is my least favorite album from them actually, although I still enjoy it. I just love how atmospheric and smooth Nabuma Rubberband sounds. I think it's such a banger too - I love having the volume up on this album!

NR is solid, I still consider Please Turn as their magnum opus though.
