Biography

Lita was born in 1959 to George Douglas and Nancy Ruth Whitfield in Jacksonville, Florida. By 3 yrs. of age, she started her singing in the local Church of God in Callahan, Fl. With the pastor anxiously standing behind her while she swayed back and forth on the alter. From there, she continued singing in gospel groups until she turned 14 when a night club in Macon, Ga. successfuly petitioned the city to allow under age kids into night clubs for the purpose of entertaining. Her career continued to blossom until she became the headliner in a group called Welston Crossing Band in Warner Robins, GA.

Eventually, she and her family gathered enough funds to make a trip to Nashville, TN where she recorded two songs on 45 rpm vinyl records. In 1991, she made one more trip to Nashville and recorded the two songs on this album with the guidance of her producer, Bay West. Subsequent release in Europe found “I’d Rather Be Hurt” on the charts in Switzerland (#3), Ireland (#2), and Scandinavia (#1).

The emotion delivered through this song was founded in her experiences in her life at the time. Suffice it to say, she had it rough. Though no longer in the music “scene” full time, she does occasionally sing in local night clubs but only by request.

Currently, Lita is enrolled in a Medical Billing and Coding course thru Colorado Technical University. Happily married for 15 years to the wonderful man of her dreams, Lita is enjoying the domestic lifestyle and worries now only for her children, husband and mother.
