Linda made an uncredited vocal contribution to the Beatles song Let It Be during the band’s recording of the album of the same name in early 1969. After the breakup of the Beatles in 1970, Paul began teaching Linda to play keyboards, and included her in the lineup for his new band, Wings. Although Linda was shunned by music critics for her amateur singing and playing skills, Wings garnered several Grammy Awards for their music, and became one of the most successful bands of the 1970s. Linda developed her musical talent through the years, even writing and recording her own music. Her album Wide Prairie was released posthumously in 1998. Though Linda, throughout her time with Paul had been slammed by critics, she got the last ‘word’ in, in her song “The Light Comes from Within” off the ‘Wide Prairie’ album. In that song, she fired back at her critics. “You say I’m lazy/ You say I’m thick/Takes one to know one you make me sick/You say I’m simple, you say I’m a hick/You’re fucking no-one, you stupid dick’ This would be the last song that Linda McCartney recorded before her death.
