I Feel Like Dying is a 2007 hip hop song by Lil’ Wayne from the mixtape The Carter Meets The Cartel. It samples Henry Ate’s song Once for its chorus (“Only once the drugs are done, that I feel like dying”).

The song is primarily a lyrical exposition of Lil’ Wayne’s fondness for various types of drugs, including alcohol (managing to namedrop a reference to the Louis XIII de Rémy Martin cognac), marijuana, and codeine.

Due to the sampling of the song “Once”, Lil Wayne and his label, Cash Money, was slapped with an ongoing 2008 lawsuit in Florida by lawyers for the sampled song’s South African writer, Karma-ann Swanepoel.

It also gained controversy for its alleged use of backmasking; playing the song backwards with a sped-up tempo (to produce a high-pitched chipmunk-like voice), the song is said to have contained the covert lyrics “We are on the ground beneath ya”.
