Biography

Lewis & The Chessmen is the musical project of Lewis Daly, the cosmo-botanist.

In December 2011, Lewis & The Chessmen released Bright Black, a short album centered around themes of blackness, cosmology, and botany. Lewis is currently conducting ethnographic research in the Guyanese savannah, and writing songs about his experiences for a forthcoming album, Guyana Songs. This will emerge from the undergrowth some time in 2013.

Lewis Daly divides his time between Oxford, London, and Guyana. He sings and plays the guitar, piano, clarinet, and bass recorder. Collaborators in the Chessmen project include Alex Hunt, the cellist, keyboardist, and producer, and Adam Greves, the co-conspirator, film-maker, and evolutionary archaeologist.
