Biography

Leijona is known as one of the hiphop artists who have biggest influence in rap music scene in the city of Oulu in Finland.

At the beginning Leijona represented one of the most still best known hiphop group in Oulu, “DT-MOB” (Downtown Mafia). Group released one of the first hiphop albums from Oulu, with name “Forever”, which best known track was “Life” (production by “Oeo”). DT-MOB members have organized several hiphop events in Oulu area and have brought hiphop artists for example from USA to gigs in Finland.

Later Leijona was known as main vocalist of Tidal Wave group. Group made gigs in Northern Finland and lyrics were mostly about racism since group had foreign members. At some point Leijona started to grow his solo career. Album “Leijona - Herra MC” (Lion - Mr MC) was a success. It was sold over 300 pieces as a non-label record and has tracks that are still concerned as a pioneering hiphop songs in Finland. At the year 2002 biggest radio station in Finland, Radio Mafia’s, listeners chose fine track “Läpi Suomen” (Through Finland) as a best track of the week 33 of non-label tracks. Later album “Viinaa, Huumeita ja Väkivaltaa” (Liquor, Drugs and Violence) was released.

Featuring artists for Leijona’s albums have been for example Steen1, Pekka of Vapaapudotus, Petos, Vaeltava aave, Herra Soppa, Money (later known as Julma-Henri) etc. From record labels Leijona was interested by Edel Records. Leijona has done gigs all over Finland, biggest event was Pipefest festival.

Nowadays Leijona is best known as co-rapper of artist Steen1. Third album is upcoming.
