About This Track

This song is an outstanding mandolin and acoustic guitar piece by the 1970’s British rock band Led Zeppelin. With music written by Jimmy Page and lyrics by Robert Plant, this beautiful and compelling song is from the Led Zeppelin IV album which was released in 1971. The answering backup vocals were done by vocalist Sandy Denny from the folk band Fairport Convention, making the song the only time in their entire career that Led Zeppelin used an outside singer. It is thought that the song refers to the Battle of Pelennor Fields from JRR Tolkien’s “Return of the King”.
