The members of Lazarus Clamp live in Birmingham, Leicester, Derbyshire, London, and Aldershot.

Lazarus Clamp began playing under that name in Leicester, in 1994, when Michael and Andrew first met. They have since played with Giant Sand, Cat Power, Chris Brokaw, The Mekons, Songs:Ohia, Richard Buckner, The New Year, Thee More Shallows, Laura Cantrell, Mice Parade, Him, Telstar Ponies, Kitchens of Distinction, A Minor Forest, Black Heart Procession, Bob Tilton, Left Hand, and Herman Dune.

The band have a history of anticipatory (or just plan bad) timing. They played at SXSW - in 2000 (before it was fashionable). They released a recording of a 200-year-old English broadside ballad (‘Some Rivals’) as a single in 2003, successfully foreseeing (and missing) the whole Folk Britannia business by a good two-to-three years. And so on.

Fourteen years, two albums, five singles, four bassists, four babies, two drummers, and three marriages have passed since their first appearances. The band are at the height of their game, and are about to release their 3rd and 4th albums, simultaneously, in a 500-only limited-edition gatefold CD, ‘Death to Technicians.’

Since their inception, they have pursued a literate, genre-hopping approach to music-making. Their pioneering sound is a unique alignment of complexity and spontaneity - consistently intelligent, vibrant, and eclectic. The band also have the ambivalent advantage of never having aligned themselves with any ‘scene.’ On their two new CDs, they continue to gear-shift through irascible math-rock, haunting country, quirky pop, ferocious post-punk, and folky lo-fi.
