Lauriefish is a folk-pop-rock Dutch band from Haarlem, formed in early 2013. The band includes:
Laurie de Jong (vocals, guitar)
Rens de Vries (guitar)
Hans de Graaf (bass)
Louis Braam (keys)
Jim Horvath (drums, percussion)
The band came together around the song-writing talent of Laurie de Jong.
For her 14th birthday, Laurie received a guitar that would change the way she viewed music forever. Instead of just singing along to her favourite songs, she taught herself to play along too. As Laurie continued to learn and perform in high school, she began to write her own music and lyrics. With support from friends, this budding singer/songwriter found joy in recording her own music, from the comforts of her own bedroom.
In 2008, Laurie and Hans met through mutual work, and a long-lasting musical friendship was formed. Hans saw great potential in Laurie’s music, and offered to assist in recordings of her music. Taking personal experiences, and experiences of those close to her as her main inspiration, Laurie set about writing deeper, expressive songs to record professionally. Through connected friends, the rest of the band was brought together in 2013. Lauriefish was born.
Shortly after formation, the band feverishly set about perfecting a large collection of songs, whilst writing new material together. Creating meaningful music, and sharing the passion with others is the delight and drive behind Lauriefish.
The band entered the studio early July 2013 to record the upcoming ‘Epiphany’ EP, due out in September, with a full album to follow.
