Lauren and Emily have been singing together since February 2003. Since then they have developed a varied and adventurous repertoire of traditional and contemporary songs, drawing inspiration from an eclectic range of sources including Pop Maynard and Tom Waits.
They have become known for their sensitive approach to song interpretation and their spirited, unaffected style. Their harmonies are both intricate and subtle, keeping the story of the song central to their arrangements. As well as being strong unaccompanied singers in their own right, the combination of flute and concertina provides a fresh and original backing to their songs. Together they are taking the folk scene by storm and have appeared at festivals around the country, from Sidmouth to Glastonbury.
Lauren and Emily have contributed to a number of Cds including Martyn Wyndham-Read’s Songlinks 2, Folk Rising and Old Wine New Skins. Their debut EP caused a stir, receiving airplay on Radio 3’s Late Junction and featuring on a fRoots compilation CD. Their first album is due for release in 2008. As well as being seasoned solo performers, Lauren and Emily make up two thirds of widely acclaimed harmony trio The Devil’s Interval whose debut CD ‘Blood & Honey’ is available on Wild Goose Records. They annually tour with Waterson:Carthy, appearing on their latest album ‘Holy Heathens and the Old Green Man’.
