I was born from love and my poor mother worked the mines
I was raised on the good book Jesus
Till I read between the lines
Now I don't believe I wanna see the morning

Even though Laura wrote many wonderful songs, when she performed them herself, people often mistook her for a mere cover artist since other artists performed more well-known versions of her songs. People think Streisand did the original version of this song. There is a similar comment on the "And When I Die" page accusing Laura of screwing up the Blood, Sweat, and Tears song. It's really annoying.

@GoBigBlue You may like Barbara's version better. But, Laura wrote this song and she had the original version. It was the b-side to her debut single "Wedding Bell Blues" in 1967.

Stoney End was recorded first by Laura Nyro in 1965, Streisand took it to the charts 4 years later
