2. Laugh were a bunch of lads from Stockport, South Manchester, who got together in the mid 80’s.
The most commonly recognised line-up is: Martin Wright (guitar, vocals), Ian Bendelow (guitar) Martin Mittler (bass) and Spencer Birtwistle (drums).
Laugh first came to national attention following a court case in which Bertwistle’s grandmother (dubbed ‘Game Granny Bowers’ by the NME) was prosecuted for noise pollution after allowing the band to practice in her basement. Nonetheless the band moved forward, a flexidisc issued with Manchester fanzine Debris began to create a stir and by the time of recording John Peel sessions in ‘86 and ‘87, Laugh were already signed to the Remorse label, releasing ‘Take Your Time Yeah’ and ‘Paul McCartney’ (which featured Smiths guitarist Craig Gannon). Another single ‘Time To Lose It’ followed in ‘87. Laugh’s only full-length album, “Sensation Number One”, was released in 1988 along with the album title track released as a single.
