Jamaican master percussionist Larry MacDonald crowns a legendary fourty year career with his first solo album “Drumquestra”. It’s a personal, mystical dancefloor masterpiece that he lovingly calls “a drummical experience.”.

Larry coined the unusual title for the crew who brought his cherished vision to life — a unique orchestra uniting generations of Jamaican drummers including Sly Dunbar. Other guest friends include veteran reggae legends Toots Hibbert and Bob Andy along with Stranger Cole who pairs with his sassy DJ son Squiddly on a song penned by Executive producer Malik Al Nasir entitled “Crime or Music”.

Busy playing with everyone from 1960s pop star Jackie de Shannon to revolutionary poet Gil Scott-Heron, and spreading Afro-Caribbean music around the world, Larry has waited for the right time to step forward, solo. “Drumquestra” triumphantly distills his epic percussion explorations that start with mento and ska in the 1960s, and flow through the exciting cross-currents of Africa, Brazil Cuba and Jamaica that he knows as his own. These super-grooves transcend boundaries without blurring them and fit onto decks and playlists from Boston to Brixton and Bali.
