Biography
Lamia Ryl
www.lamiaryl.blogspot.com
Born in Paris, Lamia came to settle in Casablanca with her grandparents when she was one year old. She grew up within an artistic family. Her grandmother “Mama Douja” usually plays piano, her aunt is a painter, her uncle is a pianist… That explains her leaning at a young age towards singing, dancing and even acting. Her main inspiration in cinema has always been Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, Audrey Hepburn and the TV series Fame.
Meanwhile, Lamia had an ordinary primary and secondary schooling. Thereafter she studied at a Canadian school of Computer Science and electronics. She obtained the highest honors of her class and was supposed to pursue her studies in Canada; But her destiny was to stay in Morocco where she has finally started to achieve part of her childhood dream and began to sing. She then discovered her vocal tendencies and the world of jazz, rhythm’n blues, soul and gospel.
She sang and still sings in some of the most prestigious European and Middle Eastern venues… She has performed at festivals, great events like “The Jazz Festival” in Brussels, the “Jazzablanca Festival” in Casablanca where big stars of jazz and blues were also present like “Al Jarreau”, “Lucky Petterson”, “Diane Reaves”, “Michel Jonasz” and many others…
She was awarded in 2002 Best French-speaking singer at the 6th “Tremplin des étoiles” contest in Montelimar (France).
