Biography

Kyteman (real name Colin Benders) is a dutch hiphop artist and trumpet player. The day Colin Benders, age 22, moved into his apartment in Utrecht-Overvecht, he started to work day and mostly nights, on his debut album. At the same time he started performing with Holland’s biggest, like Relax, Krezip, Voicst and C-Mon & Kypski.

Now, three years later, he presents his music. The album by the appropriate name ‘The Hermit Sessions’ is a reflection of Kytemans vision on hip hop: optimistic, soulful and pushing the boundaries of jazzy, lyrical hip-hop. It was released at 20th February 2009.

Kyteman’s hiphop orchestra has grown into a monster project. Starting out as Colin Benders playing all the instruments on ‘The Hermit Sessions’ , at the live shows the stage is filled with 12 musicians and 10 mc’s.

Today, the orchestra consists of Colin Benders (trumpet), Bram Hakkens (drums), Frank Wienk (percussion), Eelco Topper (keyboard), Dibbe van Laarhoven (bass), Sietse van Gorkom (violins), Jonas Pap (cello), Camilla van der Kooij (violins), Rani Kumar (violins), Randell Heye (trumpet), Kobi Arditi (trombone) and Morris Kliphuis (horn).

The Masters of Ceremony currently go by the names of ‘Pax’, ‘GMB’, ‘’Unorthadox’, Omar Soulay, ‘Reazun’, ‘Blaxtar’, ‘King Jule’, ‘Master Surreal’, ‘Double G’ and ‘bangbang’.
Kyteman’s hiphop orchestra is immensely dynamic, divers, equally explosive and whispering, with lyrics in English and French. But above all, it is an overwhelming live experience. The orchestra has three violin players, a cellist, three horn players, keys, a drummer, percussionist, bass player and of course the trumpet of Kyteman himself.

    parallellen met gang starr en jazzmatazz: fusion of hip hop and jazz (overigens ook met franse artiesten) - alhoewel rappers van Kyteman zeker niet net zo goed als wijlen Guru (en MC Solaar), noch is Kyteman zelf van het kaliber DJ Premier

    @GPX Ik zie Kyteman ook niet als hiphop, dus ik ben blij met je reactie. Ik vind Kyteman gewoon lekkere muziek, en het kan me niet schelen onder welk genre men het schuift!

    Inderdaad Scarius! Ik vind het een beetje treurig om al die 'ik heb helemaal niks met hiphop, maar kyteman vind ik leuk' comments te lezen. Dit is hetzelfde als de mensen die niet van house/techno houden, maar wel van Faithless en Prodigy. En net zoals Faithless geen echte house maakt - het is rock vermomd in een house jasje - maakt Kyteman naar mijn mening geen echte hiphop. Het is meer iets van jazz, ragtime met rap eroverheen en af en toe een geinig trompetje. Dus alle mensen die normaal niet van hiphop houden en nu wel, doe nou niet of je in dit geval wel van hiphop houdt: Je houdt er nog steeds niet van!!! Allemaal opgelucht adem halen.
