Kulu Kulu Garden are a band from Tokyo, Japan consisting of 宮原琴音 Kotone Miyahara on bass/vocals and 青木竜太郎 Ryotaro Aoki on guitar. While the band seeks a full-time drummer, various drummers from other bands in the Tokyo scene, such as 高橋恭平 Kyohei “Tonjiru” Takahashi of FAR FRANCE, are currently playing support.

The term “kulu kulu” means “crazy” and fittingly describes their music as it wavers between serene and outright chaotic.

The band formed in 2006. After releasing a string of demos in 2007 and 2008, they released their first EP “Detorake Yuuenchi” in August 2009. To coincide with their release, they held their first event, “SHALL WE (NOT) DANCE?”, which featured Thai Kick Murph, Goomi, Owarikara, and Agata (of Melt-Banana).

The fact that Kulu Kulu Garden is currently without a full-time drummer has spurred them to experiment with an acoustic (less kulu kulu) set minus a drummer but with the addition of a 2nd guitarist. This set can be heard on the bootleg EP, “Enregistrements Expérimentaux 1: Ô L’hypocrisie!”, which consists of acoustic versions of previously released songs.

About “Enregistrements Expérimentaux 1: Ô L’hypocrisie!”:

“Enregistrements Expérimentaux 1: Ô L’hypocrisie!” was an EP we recorded during a brief time when we didn’t have a drummer. We decided to rework some old songs into quieter acoustic arrangements.

I'm loving the "Enregistrements Expérimentaux 1: Ô L'hypocrisie!" ep. Though I can't say it's better than their usual awesome brand of cacophony, it's a nice change of pace. Kotone says Kenji (Far France) will play support as 2nd guitar for a few shows. Would love to see that. Hopefully they play some acoustic stuff at their CD release show on Aug 5.
