Krushed 'n' Sorted – Makesome Breaksome
Biography
(1997 – present)
Krushed ‘n’ Sorted are the legendary DJ crew / production team / reality engineers who started and run African Dope Records.
Formed in 1997 after Fletcher aka DJ Dope hooked up with ROACH and the large collection of vinyl promos left over from the collapse of his record shop Solid Records.
Having established a following for their eclectic and experimental blend of non 4/4 dance and chill-out selections and events, they realised they would need to start producing their own beats, and by early 2000 had assembled a rudimentary studio.
Armed with a disc of Cyber7 warez and a fully plundered version of the sadly now defunct Jamaican Sound Archive, they whacked out their debut album Acid (TM) Made Me Do It, which launched the label African Dope and it’s unconventional, DIY ethic.
Buoyed by the success of the album (South Africa’s first drum n bass / breakbeat album release ever), they spent the next 6 years releasing other Cape Town artists on the label, at the expense of their own original musical output although in the process they’ve mixed and mastered every album on the label and 5 or 6 others.
Along the way they’ve also toured the Czech Republic, Netherlands, Belgium and all over South Africa - appearing at events like Pukkelpop, Global Connection, support for Basement Jaxx, FreQ Nasty and Live, Rustlers Valley festivals, CellC Sound Of The City and many many more.
